Informa Markets: Employers need to care about employee wellbeing

Informa Markets senior VP HR and corporate communications Asia Andy Luk, speaking at the CTC Hong Kong Corporate Travel Summit, stated (23-May-2023) "Money for employees is a given, you need to care about their wellbeing". Mr Luk said the COVID pandemic has introduced challenges to talent acquisition due to its impact on employee safety, wellbeing and motivation. He added: "The significant shift towards distance working has also contributed to talent acquisition challenges".

Informa Markets: Pandemic led to a loss of 57m jobs in 2020

Informa Markets senior VP HR and corporate communications Asia Andy Luk, speaking at the CTC Hong Kong Corporate Travel Summit, noted (23-May-2023) the volume of online job vacancies fell by over 50% in all countries by early May-2020. Mr Luk said demand for specific skills in the healthcare sector and in logistics increased and the COVID pandemic led to a loss of 57 million jobs in 2020.

Informa Markets: Asia Pacific outpacing global trends in internal mobility rates

Informa Markets senior VP HR and corporate communications Asia Andy Luk, speaking at the CTC Hong Kong Corporate Travel Summit, noted (23-May-2023) according to a LinkedIn report, the average rate of internal mobility increased by around 15% in 2020 in the Asia Pacific region. Mr Luk said Asia Pacific is outpacing global trends in internal mobility rates, with Indonesia leading the region with a 24% rate of internal mobility.

Informa Markets senior VP HR and corporate communications Asia Andy Luk, speaking at the CTC Hong Kong Corporate Travel Summit, stated (23-May-2023) according to the South China Morning Post, remote work is becoming increasingly popular among Hong Kong companies, with 89% of 2022 contracts being for remote work. Mr Luk said Hong Kong companies are commonly hiring remote workers from various countries including Ukraine, India, Philippines, UK and the US to fill talent gaps. He added workers born in the 1980s and 1990s are more open to remote work.

HKPU: Hotels sector is embracing zero waste policies

Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU) Associate Professor and Assistant Dean Sebastian Filep, speaking at the CTC Hong Kong Corporate Travel Summit, stated (23-Mar-2023) "We're seeing the hotels sector embracing zero waste policies". Mr Filep said: "We're quite a wasteful industry so the challenge is what do we do with that. We're seeing a shift towards resources efficiency where everything we consume gets recycled in some way".

Ericsson: Travellers now want to speak to travel agents

Ericsson regional senior travel and operations manager APAC Florence Robert, speaking at the CTC Hong Kong Corporate Travel Summit, stated (23-Mar-2023) "There has been a full change in mindset for travellers, they want to speak to travel agents and get a lot of information before they travel". Ms Robert added: "We have to look into new tools, travellers want AI, they want chats open 24/7 and notifications, they don't want an online booking tool". She noted travellers are still using online booking tools to check flight time flights and other options.
