Australia to launch tourism investment website for global investors

Australia's Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Steven Ciobo announced (22-Aug-2017) the launch of a new tourism investment website, offering information and insights on tourism opportunities, and demonstrate that Australian tourism is open for investment for global investors. TAAG reports 10,000 pax on Europe and South America services in 1H2017

TAAG reported (22-Aug-2017) more than 10,000 passengers on connecting services from Southern Africa to destinations in Europe and South America, including Lisbon, Porto, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, in 1H2017. The airline plans to operate twice daily Lisbon and three times weekly Porto services for the winter 2017/18 season. BDL: German airline operating margins recovering, but at a slow pace

Queenstown Airport records highest financial result in FY2016/17

Queenstown Airport Corporation (QAC) announced (23-Aug-2017) a record highest financial result in FY2016/17 ended attributed by sustained passenger growth, expanded after dark services, infrastructure upgrades and improved returns from commercial activities. QAC also reported the "airport community" doubled within the 12 month period, growing from 350 people to 700 as most of the 60 businesses moved to double shift operations. Dubai International Airport reported (22-Aug-2017) traffic highlights for Jul-2017:

  • Passengers: 8.1 million, +5.9% year-on-year;
  • Cargo: 213,258 tonnes, +5.0%;
  • Aircraft movements: 34,181, -4.7%.

The airport reported South America was the fastest growing region with an increase of 59%, followed by Asia (+20%), Eastern Europe (+16.3%) and Africa (+9.1%). SA Airlink completes trials at St Helena Airport

SA Airlink completed (22-Aug-2017) a two day programme of flight trials at Saint Helena Airport with an E190 aircraft. The airline performed 13 flight trials and assessed air traffic control, communications and navigation systems, emergency services, ground handling, passenger assistance, terminal facilities and security. The proving flight was designed to demonstrate ETOPS proficiency to the South African Civil Aviation Authority. Jetstar plans Melbourne-Zhengzhou service from Dec-2017

Jetstar announced (23-Aug-2017) plans to launch twice weekly Melbourne-Zhengzhou service from Dec-2017, operating with Boeing 787 aircraft. The carrier expects to handle an additional 35,000 Chinese tourists to Australia p/a with the new service. The Melbourne-Zhengzhou service is delivered in partnership with local travel specialist, China Comfort Travel, which will sell services and holiday packages directly to Chinese travellers. Jetstar Group CEO Jayne Hrdlicka said the growing middle class in China presented "enormous" opportunities for Australian tourism. She noted that China already accounts for the largest source of tourism in Victoria, with China expected to overtake New Zealand and Australia's largest tourism market by 2020. Ms Hrdlicka added: "We know that Chinese travellers generally visit 2 or 3 cities when they visit Australia so we expect this will boost tourism to other parts of Australia".
