OAG: Global seats fell 5% with heavy cuts in China and Southeast Asia

OAG reported (09-Aug-2021) scheduled airline seats on sale globally for the week commencing 09-Aug-2021 fell 6.5% week-to-week, with airlines lowering available capacity by 5.3 million seats. The most significant reduction was in Northeast Asia, where airlines cut capacity by 24.7% as Chinese carriers cut almost 5.2 million seats in response to a local COVID-19 spike. The only other market to see heavy capacity reductions was Southeast Asia, where airlines took out nearly 585,000 seats from their offered capacity.
