OAG reports 20% growth across European capacity

2 June, 2021

OAG reported (01-Jun-2021) strong growth in European airline scheduled capacity for the week commencing 31-May-2021, with both Eastern and Western Europe registering increases of more 20% week-on-week. Western European capacity plans are up 23% to 9.2 million seats, with airlines adding back over 1.7 million seats. Eastern European capacity plans are up 21.9%, with more than 600,000 seats added. Western European capacity sits at just over 50% of pre-pandemic (Jan-2020) levels, while Eastern European capacity is down a mere 9.4%. Recent travel restrictions in Italy have eased leading to a 58% increase in capacity week-on-week. Turkey, Spain and Germany also saw capacity increase by over 20% week-on-week, as a combination of easing lockdowns and summer season demand began to creep back into the market. This was especially noticeable between Germany and Spain where capacity increased by nearly one third in seven days. [more - original PR]
