San Diego International Airport to undergo USD2.6 billion Terminal 1 construction and replacement project

San Diego County Regional Airport Authority board of directors approved (07-Oct-2021) the maximum contract price and master project schedule for a USD2.6 billion Terminal 1 construction and replacement project at San Diego International Airport. The authority expects US FAA to complete its National Environmental Policy Act process for the project in Oct-2021, with construction to possibly commence in Nov-2021. The new terminal will offer a total of 30 gates, various concessions spaces, more security checkpoint lanes and improvements to the airport’s roadways system. The first 19 gates are expected to be operational in Jul-2025, when construction of the remaining 11 gates will also commence. The project is estimated to create between 15,000 to 20,000 jobs for local workers and is scheduled for full completion in Jun-2028. The authority also announced plans to launch an all electric shuttle fleet in late Nov-2021 which will operate between San Diego‘s Old Town Transit Center and the airport. [more – original PR]
