St John’s International passengers declined 75% in 2020, recovery won’t occur until 2024 or 2025

St John’s International Airport CEO Peter Avery said passenger traffic dropped 75% below 2019 levels in 2020, owing to the coronavirus pandemic (Canadian Press, 28-Jun-2021). Mr Avery said the airport expects “it will be 2024 or 2025” before passenger traffic returns to pre-pandemic levels, despite the Newfoundland and Labrador provincial government’s pending reopening plan and the recent federal announcement of phased resumption of Atlantic travel.
