Swedish Transport Agency: Traffic recovery will take 'longer than expected' through 2021-2027

20 April, 2021

Swedish Transport Agency reported (19-Apr-2021) total passenger throughput at Sweden's airports is projected to total six million in 2021, compared to 5.6 million in 2020 and 22.4 million in 2019. The agency's latest forecasts for 2021-2027 indicate traffic will take "longer than expected" to recover to pre-pandemic levels, with just under 18.9 million passengers projected for 2027. Swedish Transport Agency manager Maritime and Aviation Simon Posluk commented: "The increase in passengers we thought would come during the summer will most likely not, due to several different factors such as the high spread of infection, delayed vaccine rate and continued travel restrictions". The report suggests significant recovery will begin in 2022 with approximately 14.4 million passengers projected. [more - original PR - Swedish]
