Tasmania's Government secures additional quarantine capacity

17 August, 2021

Tasmania's Government secured (16-Aug-2021) an additional quarantine facility to meet the increased demand being caused by the evolving coronavirus situation across the country and associated border restrictions. The Travelodge Hotel in Hobart has been commissioned to be part of Tasmania's quarantine efforts. Tasmania's Government said the recent series of interstate coronavirus delta strain outbreaks have resulted in a significant and increasing number of domestic travellers requiring quarantine in government designated hotel accommodation in Tasmania, putting pressure on existing facilities. The Government has 486 rooms available across its hotel quarantine programme, and when the new facility comes online in coming days, that total will increase to 594, bolstering its ability to safely quarantine more returning Tasmanians from high risk areas and essential workers.
