Thailand approves roadmap to reopen select provinces to international tourists

6 April, 2021

Thailand's Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha approved (04-Apr-2021) a three stage roadmap by the Tourism Authority of Thailand to reopen Phuket, Krabi, Phang Nga, Koh Samui, Pattaya and Chiang Mai to international vaccinated tourists. Details include:

  • Stage One: From Apr-2021 to Jun-2021, vaccinated foreign tourists will be allowed to undergo hotel quarantine. After completing the first seven nights, they will be allowed to visit other destinations in Thailand;
  • Stage Two: From Jul-2021 to Sep-2021, Phuket will be the first destination to lift quarantine requirements for vaccinated foreign tourists under the 'Phuket Sandbox' programme. However, they will be restricted to travel activities within designated areas in Phuket for seven days and will then be allowed to visit other Thai destinations;
  • Stage Three: From Oct-2021 to Dec-2021, all five other major tourist destinations will join Phuket in lifting quarantine requirements for vaccinated foreign tourists. Tourists will still be restricted to travel activities within designated areas in these destinations for seven days before they are allowed to visit other destinations.

Upon arrival in all stages, vaccinated foreign tourists will be required to undergo a COVID-19 screening, including RT-PCR tests, and download the specified track and trace application. [more - original PR]
