Turkey recovers to become Europe's second largest market by capacity in Aug-2021

2 September, 2021

CAPA - Centre for Aviation, in a report entitled: 'Turkey aviation: #2 in Europe. Turkish, Pegasus focus on low costs', stated (02-Sep-2021) Turkey became Europe's second largest market by seat capacity, after Spain, for the week of 16-Aug-2021. Led by the domestic market, Turkey has recovered to 84% of 2019 seat capacity levels, which is much higher than the average of 66% for Europe. Pegasus Airlines has returned to 100% of 2019 seat numbers and Turkish Airlines is at 91%. Passenger traffic recovery is lagging behind capacity for both airlines, but traffic remains ahead of the European average. Pegasus' advantage stems from its greater exposure to the large domestic market, while Turkish Airlines has greater exposure to long haul connecting traffic. Turkish Airlines is also making greater use of its low cost brand AnadoluJet. [more - CAPA Analysis]
