US airlines record first profit since COVID-19 in 2Q2021

US passenger airlines recorded (15-Sep-2021) a 2Q2021 after tax net profit of USD1 billion, despite a pre tax operating loss of USD3.6 billion. The results represent the first quarterly profit since 4Q2019. The profit was a USD5.2 billion net change from the 1Q2021 loss of USD4.2 billion and the pre-tax operating loss was a USD9.1 billion reduction from a 1Q2021 loss of USD12.7 billion.
