US CBP to continue to allow US citizens to voluntarily participate in biometric entry-exit programme

US Customs and Border Protection stated “upon consultation with Congress and privacy experts” the CBP has determined it will “continue to allow US citizens to voluntarily participate in the biometric entry-exit programme” and it intends to have the planned regulatory action “removed the unified agenda next time it is published” (TechCrunch, 06-Dec-2019). This follows a government filing issued by the Department of Homeland Security proposing amendments to the biometric entry-exit system to provide that all travellers, including US citizens, may be required to be photographed upon entry and/or departure.
