WestJet is adopting a careful approach to trans-Pacific services

    CAPA – Centre for Aviation, in a report entitled: ‘Canada-Asia aviation market: tough route dynamics persist’, stated (02-Dec-2019) yield on routes between Canada and Asia remains depressed and overcapacity continues, despite Asia being one of the fastest growing aviation markets worldwide. Such market dynamics are causing WestJet to adopt a careful approach to the launch of trans Pacific services, and for now, it has no immediate plans to enter the long haul trans Pacific market. While most of the CanadaChina market focuses on destinations such as Vancouver and CalgaryToronto and Montreal are also being put forward as points of strength for airlines operating Canada-Asia services, as the ethnic population in these areas continue to grow.
