Wizz Air CEO expects carrier to return to 2019 levels once COVID-19 ‘falls away’ but still expects changes to airline industry structure

Wizz Air CEO József Váradi expects the carrier to return to 2019 levels “the moment COVID falls away” (Reuters, 21-Oct-2020). Mr Váradi said Wizz Air restored 50% of normal traffic and intends to further improve unit costs with new aircraft deliveries. Mr Váradi said finance remains available for a number of carriers, including Wizz Air. Mr Váradi added the carrier is open to new foreign ventures. He expects changes to the structure of the airline industry as a result of COVID-19. Mr Váradi considers a number of private carriers will not survive while national airlines are supported by governments. Mr Váradi criticised the lack of coordination between governments in relation to travel restrictions and measures.
