The China hub has seen traffic levels recover and in Jul-2020 demand was down just a third on the same month in 2019. Travel restrictions continued to impact international passenger levels, which were down -96.7% year-on-year during the month, but the domestic market had returned to levels nearing the previous year, down just -13.1% and exceeding the four million passenger milestone.
The return in demand is not quite tracking with capacity though with domestic movements actually down just -1.1% compared to Jul-2019. On 30-Jul-2020, the airport reportedly handled 153,600 passengers, marking the first time the airport exceeded 150,000 passengers per day since the outbreak of coronavirus.
The airport has now implemented IATA's One ID initiative at terminal 1, for passengers aged 12 and older travelling on domestic services. Under the initiative, passengers are able to complete the entire airport throughput process using a single biometric identifier, in this case a facial recognition enabled identifier, including self service check in, self service baggage drop off, security screening and boarding.
