21 June, 2022

Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts will expand into Malaysia with the opening in 2024 of the Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur. The property in the heart of the city's famed Bukit Bintang hub will be developed and owned by Tradewinds Corporation Berhad and managed by Hilton.

The debut of the brand in the Southeast Asian country continues a growth journey that has seen Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts' entry into sought-after destinations such as Sydney, Tokyo, Osaka and Jakarta, and joins a portfolio across Asia Pacific that also includes locations in destinations like the Maldives, Bangkok, Beijing and Shanghai.

The new property joins an existing portfolio of 12 operating and nine Hilton pipeline hotels and resorts across Malaysia, and 14 Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts currently open or under development in Asia Pacific.

Work commences in 3Q2022 on 279 suite property

Renovation and construction is scheduled to start in the third quarter of this year, offering guests custom-designed interiors and furnishings at each of the property's 279 suites, which will range in sizes upwards of 76 square meters.

A central location within Kuala Lumpur's Golden Triangle

Located within Kuala Lumpur's Golden Triangle, the Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur is housed in the famed Bukit Bintang shopping and entertainment district. It is also well connected to the city's main transportation hubs, with KL Sentral station and Kuala Lumpur International Airport being 10 minutes and an hour's drive respectively.

Malaysia 'a priority market for Hilton'

As one of Asia's key gateway cities, Kuala Lumpur, and to a larger extent, Malaysia, has "always been a priority market for Hilton," says Guy Phillips, senior vice president, development, Asia and Australasia, at Hilton.

Consistent with all Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, the brand promises guests a 'True Waldorf Service' from booking to check out, "with everlasting memories created through graceful and personalised service that is unmatched," according to its guidelines.

Wider Hilton portfolio hits Istanbul landmark

Elsewhere in the world Hilton is celebrating a historic moment with the announcement of its 100th trading or pipeline hotel in Turkey. In an agreement signed with Çalık Holding AS, the landmark property, the Canopy by Hilton Istanbul Taksim, will open in 2023. Not only does it allow Hilton to achieve a century of hotels either already operating or under development in Turkey, but also signal the debut of the Canopy boutique lifestyle brand in the country.

The 110-room Canopy by Hilton Istanbul Taksim will sit at the heart of Taksim 360, a major urban renewal project currently under construction with housing, offices, commercial areas, and shopping zones. Situated next to Taksim Square and Istiklal Street, the hotel will be in close proximity to Nisantasi, Karakoy and Bosphorus, and typifies the mission of the Canopy brand to offer hotels that are rooted in the most desirable neighbourhoods of cities around the world.

Hilton currently operates 25 hotels in Istanbul across its global Conrad Hotels & Resorts, Curio Collection by Hilton, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, DoubleTree by Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton by Hilton brands.
