Low Cost Long Haul - Will it work? We speak to the industry!

17 October, 2017

The topic of low cost long haul is a major buzz in the aviation sector as airlines take advantage of the efficiency of new generation airliners to replicate the successful short haul model into the long haul arena. But will it succeed and is now the right time for its evolution?

The Blue Swan Daily spoke to a number of senior airline delegates at last week's CAPA ACTE Global Aviation and Corporate Travel Summit in London to learn their views.

  • IAG, CEO, Wille Walsh is "absolutely convinced" in the future of the low cost long haul model...
  • Respected industry consultant John Byerly believes new technology will drive the model forward...
  • Finnair, CCO, Juha Järvinen, believes that Finnair already works its long haul fleet hard and this utilisation will enable it to compete with the emerging low cost long haul sector...
  • airBaltic, CEO, Martin Gauss says that while not part of the Latvian airline's plans, low cost long haul "will be sustainable in the future" but perhaps "not for the early adaptors"...
