Revenue generation: using digital technology to aid recovery

18 August, 2021

The impact of COVID-19 has required all airlines to reassess their processes, transform and adapt to a new world order and this illustrates that there has perhaps never been a more prudent time for airlines around the world to innovate their business with new and improved technology.

Digitalisation simply means converting analogue data into digital data, but in effect it means so much more and opens the door to numerous new revenue and value-producing opportunities for any business. The increasing deployment of digital technology will be beneficial to airlines, airports and their passengers: digital ultimately improves efficiency, reduces costs and in turn improves user experience.

Over the past year, chief innovation, digital and technology officers have been called up to completely review strategies and identify opportunities to improve processes at reduced costs. But, what strategies and technologies exist today to help airlines navigate this global pandemic and how can they assist airlines to not survive but grow in a time where that seems almost impossible?

At the Jul-2021 edition of CAPA Live, technology leaders from around the world came together to discuss examples of specific technology implemented to assist with managing the pandemic and how technology has helped ensure staff and passenger safety onboard aircraft and in airport terminals. They panellists - Travelport's head of air propositions, Mark Lenahan; Bluebox Aviation Systems' business development director, David Brown; and Air Serbia, head of e-commerce, Srdjan Prokic - also considered the keys to not only survive, but thrive to innovate and adapt to a new world order, the importance of technology partner relationships and how technology can help to aid recovery with ancillary revenue generation.

You can hear their views and industry insights in this CAPA TV recording of their discussion.
