Sydney airfares fall on key international routes, hotel rates rise more than 5%: CWT/CAPA Report

Average Ticket Price (ATP) to Sydney on many key international routes has decreased year-on-year, with airfares on the Sydney-Singapore and Sydney-Hong Kong routes falling more than 5%, according to new findings released today by Carlson Wagonlit Travel, in conjunction with CAPA - Centre for Aviation.

Although the airlines have long applied cancellation policies - and, in the US particularly - made a large amount of ancillary revenue from steep charges for any change, hotels have generally been much more generous.

Despite growth almost every year, visitor numbers cannot keep up with the onslaught of impressive results from New Zealand, China and the US. On 22-Jul-2017 Qatar Airways updated the GDS and inventory timetable display to show a new daily Doha-Sydney-Canberra service effective from 12-Feb-2018. The airline will operate the route with Boeing 777 equipment, massively increasing its capacity to Sydney.
