Only one in six companies have set targets to reduce emissions from staff business travel

A high majority of global companies are failing to set ambitious targets to reduce corporate travel emissions, according to the second edition of a ranking on business travel by The Travel Smart Campaign.

A huge 85% of global companies don’t have credible plans to reduce corporate flying emissions.

The 2023 Travel Smart Ranking measures efforts made by global companies towards reducing corporate air travel emissions, tracking their commitment, emissions and reporting performance.

The yearly ranking is published by the Travel Smart campaign, a global campaign which seeks to get companies to reduce business flying emissions by -50% or more from 2019 levels, by 2025 or sooner.

Sydney sees Pride rise – hotel ADR and RevPAR exceed pre-pandemic levels

The recent Sydney WorldPride 2023 drove the Australian city’s hotel average daily rate (ADR) and revenue per available room (RevPAR) above pre-pandemic levels, while occupancy remained slightly below 2019, according to preliminary data from STR.

WorldPride was held for the first time in the Southern Hemisphere with Sydney hosting a series of events across two weeks to commemorate LGBTQIA+ pride. The festival generated enormous interest with hotels reporting “consistently high occupancy and room rates,” according to Matthew Burke, STR’s regional director for Pacific, Japan & Central South Asia.

Elsewhere, the reopening of Japan’s international border several months ago have helped boost Tokyo’s ADR beyond pre-pandemic comparables for two straight months, while the Saudi Arabian city of Riyadh has reported its highest hotel occupancy since 2008.

Women feel less safe than men when travelling for business

While businesses across the world are championing its female leaders on International Women's Day, new research finds that women travellers are more likely to take measures to protect their safety during business travel than men.

On a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and a focal point in the women's rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women, the findings from global travel risk management organisation, World Travel Protection, highlights that there remains a big gap in equality.

IHG boosts Greater China activity with ‘ambitious expansion’ in popular and emerging destinations

IHG Hotels & Resorts is pursuing an ambitious expansion plan in Greater China that explores popular and emerging destinations. Leveraging its global experience, deep local insights, and a rich brand portfolio, the company is positioning itself to respond to increasing domestic travel demand and welcome Chinese and international travellers alike in the new era of travel.

IHG currently has 12 brands in Greater China, with a total of more than 1,000 hotels operating or under the pipeline. This year, it will continue to expand its footprint in Greater China, covering more than 200 cities.
