Japan Airlines banks on the value of a morning arrival as it adds to London schedule

This winter, Japan Airlines (JAL) will reinstate a second daily flight into the London, but rather than the mid-afternoon arrival time seen on all other flights in the Tokyo - London market, the service will arrive in the UK capital in the early hours of the morning, providing the Asian airline with an unique selling point versus rivals. It last operated two daily flights into London from Tokyo late last decade after it switched an existing Osaka - London flight to the capital in March 2009, but it closed in December of the same year.

There continues to be a trend where international visitors from the UK are "brexiting" Australia, but it is not exactly as it seems. Despite growth almost every year, visitor numbers cannot keep up with the onslaught of impressive results from New Zealand, China and the US. Within the last decade, the UK has moved from consistently being in second position as Australia's largest source of visitors to fourth place in 2017, and even monthly results as low as seventh place as evident in May-2017. Perhaps the launch of Qantas' nonstop London-Perth service will assist with improving these numbers and the UK can once again rival China and the US.

US major Delta Air Lines is at the centre of a deepening transatlantic airline partnership that will see Sir Richard Branson sell his majority stake in Virgin Atlantic Airways. The airline will pay €375 million to acquire 10% equity and a seat on the Air France-KLM Group Board of Directors and £220 million of that money is being immediately used by the European joint venture to acquire a 31% stake in UK carrier Virgin Atlantic Airways.

The report, released by Statistics New Zealand, shows these visitors from the UK and Ireland peaked at 23,400 as a result of the British and Irish Lions tour. This is the highest number of combined monthly visitors to New Zealand from both countries since the last tour in Jun-2005.

The market analysis and data specialist's comprehensive fleet database shows the airline currently has four aircraft under its registration with an average age of just 1.2 years.
