Report: Inflight buckle announcements contribute 437.1 tonnes of carbon emissions

A report released today by the University of Northphalia has found that the up to 30 seconds at the beginning of each inflight safety demonstration unnecessarily contributes approximately 437.1 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

Fiji Airways gains access to mainland China with Hong Kong Airlines codeshare

Fiji Airways is the latest airline from this region to forge a codeshare with Hong Kong Airlines. Fiji Airways plans to begin codesharing with Hong Kong Airlines in Jul-2017, at about the same time Virgin Australia starts to codeshare with the Hong Kong-based carrier.

Jin Air to return to Australia as South Korean visitor traffic surges

Korean Air LCC subsidiary Jin Air is resuming seasonal flights to Cairns in late 2017 and could eventually serve Cairns year-round as well as launch services to other Australian gateways. More flights to Australia from Jin would stimulate demand in the Australia-Korea market, which has been growing fast but is underserved.

Enhanced measures adopted by USA sets new baseline on global aviation security

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is requiring enhanced screening of personal electronic devices, passengers and explosive detection for the roughly 2,000 commercial flights arriving daily in the country from 280 airports on 180 airlines in 105 countries. These enhanced security screening measures for all commercial flights to the US will impact around 325,000 daily passengers, but will avoid the suggested plans to extend the onboard large personal electronic device ban across all markets with non-stop access into the US.
