TUI remains open to partnership after Etihad ends talks on formation of new leisure airline

Leading European tour operator TUI Group says it "remains open" to a potential future partnership after discussions to merge its German aviation subsidiary with NIKI, the Austrian subsidiary of the airberlin Group feel through this week. The creation of the proposed new leisure airline was still subject to regulatory approval, but the collapse of the deal is a surprise as many believed it would have represented a good solution to overcome a clear overcapacity in the German market and help with the ongoing restructuring of the airberlin business.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has revised its 2017 industry profitability outlook upwards, predicting airlines will report a $31.4 billion profit (up from the previously forecast $29.8 billion) on revenues of $743 billion (up from the previously forecast $736 billion).

Qantas looks at longer range opportunities for future fleet expansion and more non-stop links into Europe

The much-publicised new non-stop long-haul link between Perth and London is likely to be just the first of a number of new non-stop flights linking Australia to Europe, Qantas senior executives have confirmed. The arrival of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner opens up a whole new range of routes for the flag carrier, but its management is already looking beyond the aircraft to models such as the ultra-long-range version of the Airbus A350-900 and new Boeing 777X which could allow future non-stop flights linking both Melbourne and Sydney to London in the future.

Online scammers are on the prowl for airline customers

The threat of online scammers using airline names is growing more and more every day. It seems we are constantly faced with attempts at accessing our credit card details, bank details and personal information. By the misuse of fake Facebook competitions, to fake emails and telephone calls, an airline is the perfect opportunity to mislead consumers into clicking something they shouldn't. Almost everyone would jump at the opportunity for a free flight, and the scammers are well aware of this.
