Understanding partnerships, consolidation, and mergers in Latin America

Latin American airline consolidation is proceeding, although the path and timing is difficult to forecast.

Avianca and GOL are seeking to create a pan-regional airline group capable of competing with LATAM on an equal footing.

Regional aviation leaders are projecting that three or four major airline groups will emerge, either via partnerships, mergers or other tie-ups.

Companies have sustainability goals in place, but only half have targets for business travel

New research of travel buyers and business travellers has highlighted the rising importance of environmental sustainability in business travel. However, while the majority of companies now have sustainability goals in place, only half have targets for sustainable business travel.

The survey from BCD Travel also highlights that while over half of travellers are willing to take fewer but longer business trips, or try new, more sustainable ways of traveling, only 30% are willing to pay more for travel to include carbon offsets or purchasing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Post COVID-19 travel and tourism megatrends in South Pacific

COVID-19 produced the greatest shift in international traveller behaviour since the start of the Jet Age. The South Pacific has been at the forefront of those changes.

Travellers are increasingly embracing technology as part of the travel process. They are also more aware of the impacts of their travel and are increasingly seeking out unique cultural, religious and social encounters, often replacing urban tourism with a broader mix of destinations.

At the same time, business travel remains well below pre-pandemic levels, with technology serving as a notable substitute, while luxury travel is reaching new highs.

Latin America: Getting operational integrity right – is the system really stable

While delays and cancellations have ebbed and staffing levels are recovering across the region, the Latin American aviation system still faces disruption on multiple fronts and this continues to influence business travel in the region.

As travel builds into the peak summer travel period, the regional sector could be facing with another trying period.
