Air Tahiti Nui advises of wholesale fare increases from Dec-2023

Air Tahiti Nui advised (15-Dec-2023) travel agency partners of planned wholesale net airfare increases on services from Australia to France, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Tahiti and US, effective 18-Dec-2023. Emirates launches premium economy product in Brazil

Emirates Airline launched (07-Dec-2023) its premium economy offering in Brazil, marking the first destination in Emirates' Latin American network to offer premium economy. The carrier introduced premium economy class on three times weekly Sao Paulo service on 19-Nov-2023, operated with four class A380. The carrier plans to offer premium economy on daily Sao Paulo service from 11-Dec-2023. Country manager for Brazil and Argentina Stephane Perard said: "We are the only airline offering the premium economy experience on direct flights between São Paulo and the Middle East". EUROCONTROL: Intra European traffic at 90% of 2019 levels in early Dec-2023

EUROCONTROL reported (07-Dec-2023) the following highlights for European aviation, for the period between 27-Nov-2023 and 03-Dec-2023:

  • The network recorded 23,809 average daily flights, -1.2% week-on-week and +5% year-on-year, reaching 92% of 2019 levels;
  • Intra Europe: 18,125 daily flights, -2% week-on-week and 90% of 2019 levels;
  • Intercontinental: 4977, +1% week-on-week and 93% of 2019 levels;
  • On the intercontinental network, Europe-Middle East was the largest regional flow, with 1185 daily flights, 9% below 2019 levels;
  • Europe-North Africa recorded the highest increase compared to 2019 (+25%), while Europe-Other Europe (including Russia) recorded the largest decrease (-69%);
  • UK-US was the top long haul country pair, with 293 average daily flights, +13% week-on-week and +26% compared with 2019;

STARLUX Airlines to commence Taiwan Taoyuan-San Francisco service in Dec-2023

STARLUX Airlines confirmed (05-Dec-2023) plans to commence three times weekly Taiwan Taoyuan-San Francisco service with A350 equipment on 16-Dec-2023. Alaska Airlines enters agreement for acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines

Alaska Air Group and Hawaiian Airlines entered (03-Dec-2023) a definitive agreement under which Alaska Airlines will acquire Hawaiian Airlines for USD18 per share in cash for a transaction value of approximately USD1.9 billion. Features of the acquisition will include:

  • The combined airline will maintain both Alaska Air and Hawaiian Air brands while integrating into a single operating platform;
  • The combined organisation will be based in Seattle under the leadership of Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci;
  • The airline will serve 138 destinations with a fleet of 365 aircraft;
  • Honolulu will become a "key" Alaska Airlines hub;
  • The company will maintain and grow union represented jobs in Hawaii, including preserving pilot, flight attendant, and maintenance bases in Honolulu and airport operations and cargo throughout the state;
  • No anticipated material impact on long term balance sheet metrics with return to target leverage levels expected within 24 months.

Hawaiian Airlines president and CEO Peter Ingram said: "In Alaska Airlines, we are joining an airline that has long served Hawaii, and has a complementary network and a shared culture of service. With the additional scale and resources that this transaction with Alaska Airlines brings, we will be able to accelerate investments in our guest experience and technology, while maintaining the Hawaiian Airlines brand". The acquisition is conditioned on required regulatory approvals, approval by Hawaiian Holdings shareholders and other customary closing conditions, with closing expected between Dec-2024 and Jun-2025. American Airlines to implement WiFi on dual class regional aircraft

American Airlines announced (30-Nov-2023) plans to implement high speed WiFi connectivity on nearly 500 dual class regional aircraft, commencing in 2024.
