Jetstar Airways to launch Brisbane services to Tokyo Narita, Osaka and Seoul

Jetstar Airways signed (19-Jun-2023) a partnership agreement with Brisbane Airport to launch the following services:

  • Brisbane-Tokyo Narita: Five times weekly from 31-Oct-2023. Frequency will increase to daily from 03-Dec-2023. To facilitate the service, Jetstar will suspend Gold Coast-Tokyo Narita service from 29-Oct-2023;
  • Brisbane-Osaka: Four times weekly from 02-Feb-2024. Over 380,000 seats will be added per year from Brisbane to Tokyo Narita and Osaka;
  • Brisbane-Seoul: Three times weekly from 01-Feb-2024.

The LCC will also increase Brisbane-Bali frequency from seven to 10 times weekly from 01-Feb-2024 with A321LR. It will increase Brisbane-Auckland frequency from four times weekly to daily from 29-Oct-2023, adding over 90,000 seats per year between the destinations. A321neo aircraft will be deployed on the route from 01-Feb-2024. Under the partnership, Jetstar has also launched an additional half a million low fares seats between Brisbane and international destinations. The new services and frequency increases are supported by Queensland's Attracting Aviation Investment Fund, a joint Government and airport initiative to stimulate the state's visitor economy. VietJet Air launches twice weekly Ho Chi Minh City-Brisbane service

VietJet Air launched (18-Jun-2023) twice weekly Ho Chi Minh City-Brisbane service on 18-Jun-2023 with 377 seat A330-300 aircraft, according to Brisbane Airport. The service will offer 39,000 seats to Brisbane per year. Additional tourists are expected to support up to 370 Queensland jobs and boost overnight visitor expenditure by around AUD30 million (USD20.62 million) per year right across the state. Collinson partners with Le Monde Travel to offer LoungeKey access

Collinson partnered (31-May-2023) with Japanese business travel management company Le Monde Travel to provide eligible Le Monde Travel customers one time access to the LoungeKey network by scanning a QR code upon entry. Collinson's recent global traveller sentiment survey revealed travellers plan to make 80% of the trips that they did pre-pandemic. The research also showed 62% of travellers are willing to cut back on non-essential retail purchases to fund travel and are willing to pay for premium travel experiences that enhance their journey. Singapore Airlines to increase Australia frequencies at the end of Nov-2023

Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced (24-May-2023) plans to increase Australia frequencies from Nov-2023, subject to regulatory approval. Details as follows:

  • Singapore-Melbourne: From four to five times daily, effective 22-Nov-2023 to 31-Mar-2024. A380 operation on one frequency will be extended from end of Oct-2023 to 21-Nov-2023, with the aircraft to be replaced with A350 from 22-Nov-2023;
  • Singapore-Sydney: From four to five times weekly with A350-900, effective 02-Dec-2023 to 14-Jan-2024;
  • Singapore-Adelaide: From daily to 11 times weekly with A350-900, effective 02-Dec-2023;
  • Singapore-Brisbane: From 21 to 25 times weekly with A350-900, effective 01-Dec-2023 to 13-Jan-2024;
  • Singapore-Perth: From 21 to 25 times weekly with A350-900, effective 24-Nov-2023 to 14-Jan-2024.

Singapore Airlines regional VP South West Pacific Louis Arul said the decision to significantly ramp up SIA's operations over the year end holiday period would help support the high levels of demand that were expected. [more - original PR]

Hainan Airlines to resume Shenzhen-Auckland service from Jun-2023

Hainan Airlines, via its official Twitter account, announced (23-May-2023) plans to resume twice weekly Shenzhen-Auckland service with A330 equipment from 17-Jun-2023. The airline will be the sole scheduled operator on the route, according to OAG.

InvestHK: Chinese travellers are coming back steadily

InvestHK head of tourism and hospitality Sindy Wong, speaking at the CTC Hong Kong Corporate Travel Summit, stated (23-May-2023) the company is working towards providing travellers with more confidence and attracting more corporate travellers to Hong Kong. Ms Wong said since 01-Mar-2023, Hong Kong lifted mask restrictions and since Apr-2023 it recorded 2.89 million tourists. She added: "Chinese travellers are coming back steadily".

Hong Kong Polytechnic University Associate Professor and Assistant Dean Sebastian Filep, speaking at the CTC Hong Kong Corporate Travel Summit, stated (23-May-2023) the COVID-19 pandemic is an opportunity to "rethink how we do things and leave old systems behind". Dr Filep said: "We need to think about gender equality, health and wellbeing, quality education and climate action, to rethink how we do things and to pick up on sustainability".

Dr Filep said: "Sustainability creates value for customers, corporate travel is changing and is seeking out sustainability related products and ethical products". He noted business travel is very important for global trade and is slowly resuming, adding: "We will have to wait and see what happens with the rebound".

Hong Kong Polytechnic University Associate Professor and Assistant Dean Sebastian Filep, speaking at the CTC Hong Kong Corporate Travel Summit, stated (23-May-2023) "The rise of AI has been in the media a lot, we know there are dangers but its helping drive innovation particularly in the aviation industry". Dr Filep said: "We are also seeing fuel consumption monitoring becoming more sophisticated". He added companies are now extending emissions calculators to also allow corporate travellers to search for flights that use biofuels". He noted: "It's not just about offsetting it's about choosing aircraft types and fuels".
