American Airlines and JetBlue strategic partnership to move forward after DoT review

American Airlines announced (12-Jan-2021) a strategic partnership with JetBlue Airways will move ahead following review by the US Department of Transportation (DoT). Both carriers will begin implementing aspects of the alliance in phases. Details include:

  • Enhanced customer experience for services to and from New York and Boston;
  • Strategic growth opportunities for both carriers, including accelerating the replacement of small regional jets with larger aircraft;
  • JetBlue and American schedules in New York and Boston will begin to be aligned from 1H2021, with new flight options, improved schedules and competitive fares;
  • JetBlue plans to expand its service at New York LaGuardia Airport, as well as further expand in other New York City and Boston airports;
  • The alliance will enable JetBlue to reactivate aircraft;
  • JetBlue will place its B6 code on a variety of American flights in New York and Boston and American will place its AA code on select JetBlue flights;
  • Customers of JetBlue's TrueBlue and American's AAdvantage programmes will have access to reciprocal benefits. [more - original PR]
