From mainstream to niche airliner – is the A350-1000 arriving at the wrong time?

Airbus this week confirmed it had secured Type Certification from European and United States airworthiness authorities for its new A350-1000 - the largest version of its A350XWB widebodied airliner. This milestone has occurred just under a year after the aircraft's maiden flight from the manufacturer's Toulouse Blagnac production facility in the south of France on 24-Nov-2016 and will allow first deliveries to commence to launch customer Qatar Airways before the end of the year.

Australian baggage handler company Aerocare announced it will be acquired by global cargo and handling services provider Swissport "in the coming weeks", under an arrangement to recapitalise and position the company for future growth. The new ownership structure will also see Swissport acquire Aerocare subsidiary companies Skycare, Carbridge and EasyCart from existing owners. Swissport is owned by China's HNA Group, which also holds a 20% stake in Virgin Australia.
