Antigua and Barbuda PM encourages shareholders to support LIAT

5 March, 2019

Antigua and Barbuda's Prime Minister Gaston Browne encouraged shareholders in LIAT to do "whatever is necessary to save LIAT" (winnfm.com/Antigua Observer/St Lucia News, 27-Feb/04-Mar-2019). Prime Minister Browne noted the major shareholder governments of Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will "not allow" the airline to "collapse", unless "we cannot take it any further". LIAT is reportedly in debt to the Caribbean Development Bank, with the Antigua and Barbuda government reportedly volunteering to undertake USD16 million of the debt. Leeward Islands Airline Pilots Association Carl Burke stated the airline "obviously has issues".
