BOC Aviation: AerCap-GECAS merger to put pressure on market for aircraft with leases attached

20 August, 2021

BOC Aviation reported (19-Aug-2021) aircraft lessors accounted for 50% of new aircraft deliveries in 1H2021. The lessor noted competition remains high in the aircraft leasing sector where investment grade lessors continue to enjoy competitively priced liquidity. It reported more than 60% of all aircraft delivered to lessors in year to 30-Jun-2021 were financed by aircraft lessors owned by Asian financial institutions. BOC Aviation reported it expects the merger between AerCap and GECAS - due to be completed by the end of 2021 - to put pressure in the market for sales of aircraft with leases attached, as the combined entity looks to re-optimise its fleet.
