Canada TSB: More needs to be done to protect civil aviation from operating in conflict zones

19 March, 2021

Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) issued (18-Mar-2021) a response to the release of Iran's final safety investigation report into the downing of Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752. TSB chair Kathy Fox said the report only partially explains why the airspace remained open and why operators continued to fly after Iran had launched missiles into Iraq, and indicates that some unspecified safety actions have since been taken the disaster to reduce the risk of this happening again. Ms Fox said that the lack of detail means the TSB can not confirm that these actions will actually reduce the risks to civil aviation operations within Iran's airspace. She said that more "needs to be done to protect international civil aviation from operating in conflict zones". [more - original PR]
