Dunedin Airport opens expanded security screening area with smart X ray machines and body scanners

Dunedin Airport opened an expanded security screening area equipped with two new advanced imaging machines (body scanners) and smart lane X ray equipment for baggage screening (Otago Daily Times/Radio NZ, 12-Aug-2019). The new security area and temporary departure lounge has increased the airport's total floor space by 157%, and is also designed to reduce queue times. Dunedin Airport CEO Richard Roberts commented: "Once completed in Feb-2020, the new terminal will see an almost 200% increase in floor space to the departure area - with new toilets, cafe, and retail spaces - as well as 200 additional parks in the car parking area". The enhancements form part of the New Zealand Government's NZD100 million (USD65 million) Aviation Security Service programme to upgrade security technology across all of the country's international airports by mid 2020.
