DATA SPOTLIGHT: Spring Airlines

11 May, 2020

This year The Blue Swan Daily will feature some of the leading airlines, airports and country markets for air travel. Here, using the extensive profile insights available to CAPA - Centre for Aviation members to deliver a data snapshot, we look at Spring Airlines, a Chinese LCC that right now is among the 15th largest carriers in the world by seat capacity.

The Shanghai-based airline has now resumed 70% of its pre-coronavirus frequencies and is reporting a load factor averaging above 70%. Looking ahead, it hopes to continue its strong previous growth which had seen annual traffic levels rise year-on-year by +20.7% in 2017, +13.7% in 2018 and +14.7% last year. The growth will be facilitated by an expansion of its Airbus fleet and the arrival of 12 A320neos in 2020, 15 in 2021 and 12 in 2022. These will be used half for growth and half to replace older generation A320ceo aircraft upon lease expiry.
