IATA urges Chilean Government to lift ban on vaccinated foreign travellers

26 July, 2021

IATA labelled (23-Jul-2021) the Chilean Government's latest border regulations "discriminatory" and "insufficient to stimulate travel", issuing the following recommendations in response:

  • Accept proof of full vaccination from foreign travellers;
  • Remove ban on unvaccinated children travellers;
  • Remove requirement for citizens who live more than five hours of land transport away from Santiago to pay for hotel quarantine.

As previously reported by CAPA, fully vaccinated citizens are now allowed to travel internationally via Santiago International Airport, while the country remains closed to non citizens and unvaccinated children under 12 years of age. IATA regional vice president Americas Peter Cerdá said the measures are endangering "another full tourist season" and the "long term viability of the aviation industry's value chain".
