Luxembourg Findel Airport certified under Lean & Green programme

19 October, 2020

Luxembourg Findel Airport (lux-Airport) reported (19-Oct-2020) it has become the second airport operator in Europe receiving certification under the the Lean & Green programme. Over the last three years lux-Airport has achieved a 26% reduction of its relative carbon emissions, against a target of a 20'% reduction over five years. Efforts undertaken include:

  • Installation of temperature sensors to adjust interior heating levels, closure of unused areas to reduce heated area volume and installation of frost protection;
  • Power use optimisation measures, via the introduction of a centralised and automated system that controls and manages airport heating, cooling, and electricity use, based on information from meters set within the terminal;
  • Increased its fleet of electric vehicles to seven cars.

lux-Airport aims to reduce its energy consumption by 50% by 2030 and start producing its own power, or sourcing power exclusively from renewable sources. The final objective for the airport is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. [more - original PR]
