Qantas opens new Pilot Academy at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport

Qantas opened (29-Jan-2020) its new Pilot Academy at Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport on 29-Jan-2020. The academy will have capacity to train up to 250 pilots p/a to build a long term talent pipeline for Qantas, Jetstar and QantasLink. It will also help the broader industry meet the increasing need for skilled aviators, as well as increase female and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander pilots. Facilities comprise a 1500sqm hangar, four flight training simulators, classrooms as well as purpose-built pre-flight briefing and flight scheduling areas, along with single engine Diamond DA40 and multi engine DA42 training aircraft. The academy is expected to grow to have the potential to train as many as 500 pilots p/a across Toowoomba and Mackay, the preferred location for the second Academy site. [more - original PR]
