South Australian Tourism Commission reports best June tourism result on record

4 August, 2021

South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC) stated (04-Aug-2021) regional operators reported a spike in intrastate bookings, some booking as far ahead as the New Year. It follows new data available to the SATC which shows Jun-2021 saw regional South Australia (SA) reached its best June result on record, making it the seventh consecutive month to break regional tourism records. Key details include:

  • Regional SA for the month of Jun-2021 saw an average occupancy rate of 59%, with 110,000 room nights occupied and takings of AUD16 million (USD11.8 million). This was the best Jun-2021 result on record for regional SA, above the previous high in Jun-2016 with occupancy of 56%, room nights occupied of 97,000 and takings of AUD12 million (USD8.9 million);
  • In Adelaide's CBD, average occupancy for the week ending 17-Jul-2021 was 59%, despite impacts of the Sydney lockdown, the start of the Melbourne lockdown, border restrictions to NSW, Victoria and parts of Queensland, and the traditional seasonal weakness of July. [more - original PR]
