Southwest Airlines assessing expansion in South American market

Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly reported the carrier is analysing the possibility of expanding its network to South America with Boeing 737 MAX aircraft (Nicolas Larenas, 07-Jul-2021). The carrier is assessing developing several markets from Fort Lauderdale, where it would compete with Spirit Airlines and JetBlue Airways. Southwest currently flies to Liberia, San José, Belize, Cozumel, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, San Jose Los Cabos, Havana, Punta Cana and San Juan.
