Southwest Airlines will need to 'double' business to reach break even cash burn: CEO

4 September, 2020

Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly, via the carrier's official website, stated (27-Aug-2020) the carrier will need to "double" its business in order to reach break even cash burn. The carrier burned USD17 million per day in Jul-2020, and expects to reach USD20 million in daily cash burn in 3Q2020, due to "recent improvements in bookings and demand for Aug-2020 and Sep-2020". He stated that while the airline's cash position is "strong", the carrier has "got to find a way to eliminate these huge cash losses and just get to the other side of this pandemic".
