Spain, UK and Germany reclaim status as Europe's top three markets by capacity

14 September, 2021

CAPA - Centre for Aviation, in a report entitled: 'LCCs, not Lufthansa, restore German aviation to Europe's #2', stated (11-Sep-2021) recovery in Western Europe in summer 2021 has restored Spain, the UK and Germany as the top three country markets in Europe by seat capacity. For a period during the pandemic, Russia and Turkey were the leading markets by weekly seats. Spain was ranked third prior to the crisis, but is now first. Germany's pre-pandemic strength was based on international markets and the country should resume its second place ranking as it grows towards 2019 capacity levels. This recovery may be led by LCCs, as Lufthansa Group is losing market share to carriers such as Ryanair and Wizz Air. [more - CAPA Analysis]
