Tourism & Transport Forum welcomes regional Australia investment

28 September, 2020

Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF) welcomed (27-Sep-2020) an additional AUD250 million (USD176 million) tourism and infrastructure package from the Federal Government which will deliver targeted support for regional tourism areas. TTF CEO Margy Osmond stated: "This will be critical as research by Stafford Strategy for TTF highlights that our industry is still experiencing an average AUD4 billion (USD2.8 billion) in lost tourism spending for each month that the international borders are closed". Ms Osmond said: "The next important step to re-establish traveller confidence is a dedicated AUD50 million (USD35.2 million) 'COVID Safe Domestic Travel Campaign' which is one of the key recommendations in our Federal Budget Submission", and recommended it be fast tracked from the uncommitted portion of the AUD1 billion (USD704 million) tourism focused coronavirus relief and recovery fund announced earlier in 2020.
