CAPA: US-Mexico transborder market shows promise for airlines

19 October, 2020

CAPA - Centre for Aviation, in a report entitled: 'Airlines flock to promising US-Mexico transborder market', stated (13-Oct-2020) airlines are ramping up service across the US-Mexico transborder market, in hopes of bolstering leisure demand. CAPA's Air Capacity Projection Model shows that US domestic seats are forecast to reach approximately 53% by the end of Dec-2020, compared to approximately 40% of 2019 levels in the middle of Nov-2020. However, international seats are projected to be approximately 8% of 2019 levels by the end of 2020, driven by factors such as border closures and quarantines. Passengers travelling to Mexico are not required to undergo COVID-19 testing or quarantine and seats between the US and Mexico were consequently down just 30% year-on-year during the week of 05-Oct-2020.
