Uzbekistan Airways to cut costs and establish new LCC brand

Uzbekistan's Government adopted a resolution on the transformation and support of the country's civil aviation enterprises (Trend News Agency/Gazeta.uz, 04/05-May-2021). Details include:

  • Uzbekistan Airways to adopt a hybrid model, offering full service and low cost products. Four A320 aircraft will be converted to an all economy class configuration and re-enter service from Sep-2021;
  • Uzbekistan Airways to establish a new LCC by the end of 2022 with the aim to offer lower airfares. A 51% share of the new airline will be offered to private investors;
  • Uzbekistan Airways to reduce costs by USD46.5 million by optimising staff numbers, revising its organisational structure, decommissioning 12 unused aircraft and reducing commissions to foreign ticket agents.
