Australia's Govt may extend subsidised airfares: Deputy Prime Minister

14 May, 2021

Australia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack stated (13-May-2021) the government's subsidised airfares may "quite potentially" be extended. Mr McCormack added: "We'll make sure that there's the right amount of money" in the budget for it, noting "We've tweaked our programmes, we've made sure that the projects, if the states and territories want to bring them forward, we will do that too". Mr McCormack said there may "Potentially" be new locations in the extended scheme, adding "we'll look at Cairns and we'll look at places like Darwin or we'll look at Kangaroo Island. We'll see if the programme has worked as successfully as we've wanted it to and we'll also see the economics of those regions". [more - original PR]
