Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH (FBB), via its official Twitter account, retweeted (18-Dec-2018) a report FBB CEO Dr Engelbert Lütke Daldrup said Berlin Tegel Airport will have approximately six months until closure following opening of Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) (airliners.de, 18-Dec-2018). Continued operation of Tegel is "not only not wanted", but also legally "excluded", Dr Daldrup argued. He added around 300,000 residents are affected by noise pollution at Tegel, whereas only a further 26,000 would be affected after opening of BER, bringing the total to around 330,000 (including those affected by Berlin Schoenefeld Airport currently). He concluded: "A city like location like Schoenefeld can only be selected if the previous city airport is closed". BER is scheduled to open in Oct-2020, as previously reported by CAPA.
