Northern Territory Airports aviation director Matthew Findlay said investing in freight export facilities would support the connectivity for Darwin Airport into the Asia Pacific region, although airlines "typically fly to carry passengers" and freight alone would not drive growth (ABC News, 27-Nov-2018). In Sep-2018, the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility approved AUD300 million (USD216.8 million) in finance, subject to conditions, for an expansion of airport facilities in Darwin, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs. The investment is intended to support the development of the Northern Territory's export potential, particularly in agriculture. Upgrades at Darwin Airport include Construction of cold storage and an export hub and construction of solar energy farm.
