22 January, 2018

Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport is testing a new procedure concerning abandoned baggage over a six month period, allowing a 20 minute delay to determine baggage contents before security personnel intervene, reducing airport delays (Le Parisien, 22-Jan-2018). Paris CDG reported 1280 cases of abandoned baggage in 2017 with an average delay of 30 minutes. Aeroports de Paris CEO Augustin de Romanet said certain passengers no longer hesitate abandoning baggage in order to avoid paying supplementary baggage fees.
