US Customs and Border Protection stated "upon consultation with Congress and privacy experts" the CBP has determined it will "continue to allow US citizens to voluntarily participate in the biometric entry-exit programme" and it intends to have the planned regulatory action "removed the unified agenda next time it is published" (TechCrunch, 06-Dec-2019). This follows a government filing issued by the Department of Homeland Security proposing amendments to the biometric entry-exit system to provide that all travellers, including US citizens, may be required to be photographed upon entry and/or departure.
