US DoT: Star carriers request termination of New York-Lisbon carve out

11 December, 2019

US Department of Transportation (DoT) received (11-Dec-2019) a joint application from the Star Alliance partners Air Canada, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, SAS, Swiss, TAP and United Airlines, regarding the New York-Lisbon market carve out imposed on the Star carriers by the US DoT in a previous order. The order states the carve out will no longer be applicable once another airline commences operations on the route with at least five times weekly service for nine consecutive months, and that the carve out will be automatically withdrawn 60 days after the applicants provide notice to the DoT. The carriers informed the DoT of Delta Air Lines' more than five times weekly New York-Lisbon service which has operated for nine months. The DoT is requested to confirm that the New York-Lisbon carve out will no longer be in effect from 11-Feb-2020. [more - original PR]
