Hong Kong Airlines set to return to London with stronger platform and A350 fleet

Asian carrier Hong Kong Airlines is expected to introduce flights into Europe and in particular resume services between Hong Kong and London as it takes delivery of its new Airbus A350-900s. The carrier, part of the HNA Group, has already confirmed Hong Kong - Los Angeles as the debut market for the type, but is understood to be very close to making a decision on London services, in an arrangement that could see it partner with Virgin Atlantic on the city pair.

SAS confirms Málaga and London Heathrow bases for new SAS Ireland subsidiary

In order to secure the long-term profitability of its key traffic flows and actively participate in the growing leisure market, SAS Scandinavian Airlines is establishing a sister operation in the Republic of Ireland with operational bases in London and Spain. The move will allow it to better compete with rivals, most notably Norwegian and its fast-growing pan-European network.

TAP Portugal’s latest A330-300 comes wearing a lot of history

European flag carrier TAP Portugal continues its long-haul fleet expansion with the introduction of a second Airbus A330-300 into its fleet, but the aircraft provides a look back at the airline's heritage by wearing a retro livery. The jet, is one of four former Singapore Airlines A330-300s joining the TAP fleet this summer is supporting the airline's revised long-haul network strategy.

Vietnam Airlines banks on transit traffic to soften impact of overcapacity in Australia-Vietnam market

Vietnam Airlines is aiming to attract more transit traffic beyond its Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh hubs to help support its Australia flights in a challenging environment. The Vietnamese flag carrier has been impacted by Jetstar's May-2017 launch of flights to Ho Chi Minh from both Melbourne and Sydney, which has resulted in overcapacity in the Australia-Vietnam market.

Located in the South Pacific, the Republic of Fiji has one main carrier, Fiji Airways, along with regional subsidiary Fiji Link, which operate international and domestic services from Nadi International Airport, the main international gateway to the islands of Fiji. The international airports at Nadi and Suva-Nausori are also the main domestic hubs. Many other small islands also have airstrips. The aviation regulatory authority in the Fiji Islands is the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF), which regulates all aspects of civil aviation including air navigation, operators, technicians, engineers, cargo and pilots. The Fiji Department of Civil Aviation, under the Ministry of Transport, is responsible for civil aviation policy to ensure efficiency, viability, safety and security of Fijian aviation.
